Job Responsibilities 40% 1.
Directs traffic to ensure that safe loading procedures are followed when vehicles, commodities and personnel are loaded onto barge.
Secures appropriate gates, dispatches traffic to ensure safe unloading procedures are followed.
Advises Ferry Operator of existing and potential problems.
40% 2.
Performs preventive maintenance to the ferry boats, barges, equipment, office, and grounds.
Changes oil, filters, repairs pumps, operates small tractors with front loaders, operating John Boat and operating the power washer.
Utilizes welding and electrical knowledge to make repairs as required, including replacing light bulbs and switches.
15% 3.
Keeps ice and debris removed from around boats to prevent their damage.
Makes adjustments, as necessary, to boats and barges.
5% 4.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
Requires elementary knowledge of boat and ferry operations and river traffic regulations.
Preferred Qualifications Prefer ability to repair and maintain equipment, office, and grounds.
Prefer the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to pass a background investigation.
